    Handle design

    The section shape is similar to the capital Latin letter H of an economic section profile, also known as universal steel beam, wide edge (side) I-steel or parallel flange I-steel.  The cross section of H-shaped steel usually includes two parts: web plate and flange plate, also known as waist and side. 


    The flange of H-shaped steel is parallel or nearly parallel on the inside and outside, and the end of the flange is at a right Angle, so it is named parallel flange I-steel.  The thickness of the web of H-shaped steel is smaller than that of ordinary I-beams with the same height of the web, and the width of the flange is larger than that of ordinary I-beams with the same height of the web, so it is also named wide-rim I-beams.  Determined by the shape, the section modulus, moment of inertia and corresponding strength of H-beam are obviously better than that of ordinary I-beam with the same single weight. 


    Used in different requirements of the metal structure, whether it is under bending torque, pressure load, eccentric load show its superior performance, can greatly improve the bearing capacity than ordinary I-steel, saving metal 10% ~ 40%.  H-shaped steel has wide flange, thin web, many specifications, and flexible use, which can save 15% to 20% of metal in various truss structures.  Because its flange is parallel inside and outside, and the edge end is at a right Angle, it is easy to assemble and combine into various components, which can save about 25% of the welding and riveting workload, and can greatly accelerate the construction speed of the project and shorten the construction period.

    Classification of H-shaped steel

    There are many product specifications of H-shaped steel, and the classification methods are as follows. 

    (1) According to the flange width of the product, it is divided into wide flange, middle flange and narrow flange H-shaped steel.  The flange width B of the wide flange and middle flange H-shaped steel is greater than or equal to the height H of the web.  The flange width B of the narrow flange H-shaped steel is equal to about half of the height H of the web plate. 

    (2) According to the use of the product is divided into H-type steel beam, H-type steel column, H-type steel pile, extremely thick flange H-type steel beam.  Sometimes parallel leg channel steel and parallel flange T-steel are also included in the scope of H-beam steel.  Generally, narrow flange H-shaped steel is used as beam material and wide flange H-shaped steel is used as column material, so it is also called beam H-shaped steel and column H-shaped steel. 

    (3) According to the production method, it is divided into welded H-beam steel and rolled H-beam steel.  (4) According to the size specifications are divided into large, medium and small H-shaped steel.  Usually the web height H above 700mm products are called large, 300 ~ 700mm is called medium, less than 300mm is called small.  By the end of 1990, the world's largest H-shaped steel web height was 1200mm and the flange width was 530mm.  

    Internationally, the product standards of H-shaped steel are divided into two categories: imperial system and metric system.  The United States, the United Kingdom and other countries use the British system, China, Japan, Germany and Russia and other countries use the metric system, although the British system and the metric system use different units of measurement, but most of the H-shaped steel is expressed in four dimensions, namely: web height H, flange width b, web thickness d and flange thicknesst.  Although countries around the world have different ways of expressing the size of H-beam steel specifications.  However, there is little difference in the size specification range and size tolerance of the products produced.

    manufacturing technique 

    H-shaped steel can be produced by welding or rolling.  Welding H-shaped steel is to cut the appropriate thickness of the strip to the appropriate width, and weld the flange and web together in the continuous welding set.  Welding H-shaped steel has the disadvantages of large metal consumption, difficult to ensure uniform product performance, and limited size specifications.  Therefore, H-shaped steel is mainly produced by rolling method.  In modern steel rolling production, the universal mill is used to roll H-shaped steel.  The web plate of H-shaped steel is rolled between the upper and lower horizontal rolls, and the flange is simultaneously rolled between the side of the horizontal roll and the vertical roll.  Since the flange end cannot be pressed by the universal rolling mill alone, it is necessary to set the edge rolling machine, commonly known as the edge rolling machine, behind the universal frame to give the edge of the flange and control the width of the flange.  In the actual rolling operation, the two frames are taken as a group, so that the rolled piece passes through a number of times, or the rolled piece passes through a continuous rolling set composed of several universal stands and one or two rolling edge end stands, and a certain amount of pressure is applied each pass to roll the blank into the desired specification shape and size of the product.  At the flange of the rolled piece, the wear of the roll is relatively large because of the sliding between the horizontal roll side and the rolled piece.  In order to ensure that the roll can restore the original shape after heavy rolling, the side of the horizontal roll and the corresponding vertical roll surface of the roughing mill should be 3° ~ 8°.  In order to correct the inclination of the finished flange, the finished universal rolling mill, also known as the universal finishing mill, is set up. The horizontal roll side is perpendicular to the horizontal roll line or has a small inclination Angle, generally not greater than 20 ', and the vertical roll is cylindrical.


    When the H-shaped steel is rolled by universal rolling mill, the rolling section can be extended more evenly, and the speed difference between the inner and outer roll surfaces of the flange is small, which can reduce the internal stress and appearance defects of the product. The H-shaped steel of different specifications can be obtained by changing the pressing amount of horizontal roll and vertical roll of universal rolling mill appropriately. Universal rolling mill roll shape, simple shape, long life, roll consumption can be greatly reduced. The biggest advantage of the universal rolling mill is that only the thickness of the web and flange of the same size series is changed, and the rest of the size is fixed. Therefore, the same series of H-shaped steel with the same universal pass rolling has a variety of web and flange thickness dimensions, which greatly increases the number of H-shaped steel specifications and brings great convenience for users to choose the right size specifications.


    In the absence of universal rolling mill, sometimes in order to meet the urgent need of production and construction, ordinary two-high rolling mill can also be installed with vertical roll frame to form universal pass rolling H-shaped steel. In this way rolling H-shaped steel, the product dimensional accuracy is low, the flange is difficult to be right Angle to the web, the cost is high, the specifications are few, and it is extremely difficult to roll H-shaped steel for column materials, so there are not many users.
